MAKE TIME
FOR YOUR
WRITING

MAKE TIME
FOR YOUR
WRITING

You’re a caring daughter, partner, parent, friend, and neighbor. You’re dedicated to your work whether you’re a solopreneur or part of a team.

But when you finally have time and space for yourself, you’re so far away from your writing, you need a compass to find your way back.

That compass is practice.

COMMIT TO YOUR WRITING PRACTICE

Continuous Practice is a free, online community of writers committed to daily writing practice. By showing up and documenting our practice, we support one another and keep ourselves accountable.

When you make a commitment each day to push past your resistance, your practice holds you up. And so does the presence of other practitioners. You become conscious of your interconnectedness, knowing that when you sit down at the page, you are tapping into something larger than yourself.

“Allowing myself to regularly take time to write without worrying about the end product has freed my mind, soothed my spirit, and allowed me to produce structured writing I am truly proud of.”

WHY YOU NEED CONTINUOUS PRACTICE

CONTINUOUS PRACTICE IS A DAILY
PILGRIMAGE home THAT
  • Fuels your creative engine
  • Provides a place to return to your writing each day
  • Creates space to listen to your inner writer
  • Puts you in touch with the ebb and flow of your creativity
  • Decreases isolation
  • Increases self-compassion for your process

HOW IT WORKS

Everyone is busy, which is why I’ve made it simple to join the Continuous Practice Community.
Write.

Make time to write for 10-20 minutes each day. Building a practice isn’t about being good or bad. It isn’t about how many times you show up. It’s about returning home.

You’ll probably want to quit at some point—most of us do—but the learning comes from continuing to show up. That doesn’t mean you can’t skip a day or even a week—that’s what it means to be wildly imperfect—but keep coming back. The beauty of cultivating practice is that you always have a place to return

Share.

At the end of your session each day, snap a picture or write a description of where you are. Share it in the Facebook group. If you post on social media outside of the group, use the hashtags #continuouspractice and #wildlyimperfect.

If you don’t practice on a given day, just say “skipped” and continue without judgment. In meditation, your thoughts wander, but you keep coming back until the allotted time is up. Same with Continuous Practice. While it’s exciting to witness the number of days you’ve written add up because you see what you’re capable of, it’s just as important to develop compassion around missing a day. Practice is always about this moment.

Support.

The Continuous Practice Community is a quiet space where we support each other by practicing together. We acknowledge each other’s daily photo or description of where we are with a simple “like,” but no comment. Conversation is encouraged on Fridays and Sundays.

“This community gives me courage and much needed reminders to continue.”
