How
goes your work?
Writing through the pandemic
When life is heavier than usual,
Requires more planning, more commitment.
You might be challenged by too
much solitude
Or perhaps not enough.
Either way, I see you adapt,
And it inspires me.
You remake your life with parameters
that change from week to week,
sometimes from hour to hour.
From lockdowns to mask orders,
From schools closing, then reopening
and now something in between.
You’re living a hybrid life.
It’s beyond challenging.
But you keep showing up
For the people you love.
It matters more now than ever.
As does your writing,
And you show up for that, too.
You take what’s happening in our world
And let it inform your work.
A new fluidity arises, born of the
necessity
To be flexible in ways you never imagined.
Not every day is your best.
Some days are too much, and you retreat.
You need to check out,
Watch “The Queen’s Gambit”
Or whatever is trending on Netflix.
It’s a relief, and you deserve it.
But later, you poke your head out again
Into the light.
You begin anew.
The pandemic continues.
Although they tell us the end is in sight.
We don’t know exactly when.
Fortunately, you are good with uncertainty.
Because you are a writer.
Uncertainty is your business.
And so, you keep going.
You keep loving and living and writing your story.
What else is there to do?
